The Harmony Of The Stars
The Harmony Of The Stars is a breathtaking dance performance that expresses the beauty and complexity of the relationships between stars and galaxies, the intricate patterns and rhythms that underlie the cosmos. It highlights of the importance of communication, harmony, and interconnectedness within our own lives. This VR short film fuses technology and art, focusing on an ethereal ballet performance, where the dancer is wearing a galaxy-themed dress inspired by the breathtaking photos captured by the James Webb Space Telescope. We witness a journey through the stars, the dress transforming, unveiling the vast expanse of space as the music swells. Implementing wearable technology, LED lights shine throughout the dress, reminiscent of stars, giving the garment a mesmerising effect, complemented by the immersive lighting and otherworldly music.

Design process
This is a costume design collaboration project, the design is inspired by high-definition images of galaxies in the universe captured by the James Webb Space Telescope. The project integrates wearable technology and transforming costume design into a dress, combining it with ballet and using VR technology for final film.

The design process began with the selection of fabric, focusing on using light and transparent materials like organza and voile for dress and elastic fabric for the bodice to allow more movement for the dancer. Inspired by the galaxy images, I decided to digitally print them on the fabric to create a dress that embodied the magnificence and mystery of the cosmos. The silhouette design involved combining classic and romantic tutu styles. I made use of the "fish line" release mechanism technique to transform the skirt from FORM 1 to FORM 2(View in Costume Drawing).

To enhance the dress's vividness and the performance, I incorporated wearable technology, through the use of LED lights. To realise this idea, I used LilyPad wearable e-textile technology. Each electronic unit is creatively designed with large conductive sew tabs that allowed me connect them together with conductive thread to build working circuits directly on the fabric and soft surfaces.
Throughout this project, I gained valuable insights into on stage costume transformations and the mechanism behind them, the intricacies of creating ballet dresses, as well as how technology can be applied to dance costumes. Additionally, I learned about the process of shooting a VR film and the ways in which VR technology has the potential to revolutionise the world of theatre.
